The Publications Committee shall be responsible for the quality of SGE publications and shall provide direction to and review of the society’s print and electronic publications, including books, news, magazine, research/review articles, proceeding, technical reports and all other publications. It shall oversee general editorial policy, engage in strategic planning and development of the Society’s current and future publications, recommend and work with partner entities where appropriate, and initiate publication focused task forces and subcommittees as deemed necessary by the committee. With the agreement of the Governing Body, the Conference Committee Chair will select the Sponsorship Committee. The Publication Committee comprises the Chairman and other interested members. Members may be co-opted to help manage the publication of material in their area of expertise. The committee meet annually. Meetings may be conducted either in-person or virtually, depending on need. Other work of the committee may be conducted electronically.
The committee shall be responsible for
- Assessing editorial quality and content of the publication program of the Society, including the system of primary publications of books, news, magazine, research/review articles, proceeding, technical reports the official organ of the Society, and miscellaneous publications; and reporting its findings to the Governing Body.
- Making recommendations to the Governing Body related to the needs and adequacy of the publications of the Society, including the need for curtailment of ongoing efforts and the initiation of new efforts, and recommending to the Body and any changes in these publications.
- Manage publication of the Society’s under policies determined by Governing Body.
- To ensure that publications are cost effective.
- Informing and educating members on copyright through national and regional symposia and through articles in the official organ of the Society and other SGE publications.
- Monitoring developments on copyright issues at international and national levels.
- Informing the Governing Body of the Committee’s activities.
- Deal with ethical issues regarding publications as they arise.
